Since 2013, we have coordinated the Fall Into Music instrument drive, providing more than 3,500 instruments to 20 different schools and nonprofits. We currently have ongoing partnerships with local nonprofit music organizations, universities, school districts, summer camps, community centers, and social services agencies throughout the region. They also have opportunities to participate in our organization’s decision-making process by serving as section leaders, interns, paid staff, and advisory council members, with the goal to have an alumni board member by 2023.Ĭollaborations and partnerships are critical components of our work and systems-change approach and are committed to leading and supporting collective impact and systems-change initiatives. Our programming meets year-round, with students participating an average of 9 hours per week during the academic year. In addition to daily rehearsals and frequent performances, students take part in after-school lessons, mentoring, and field trips. Our students also gain experience planning and leading performances and community events. Program alumni have served as paid staff and are represented on our advisory council and committees, and regularly participate in our hiring and decision-making processes.Īustin Soundwaves students primarily learn music drawn from the orchestral and wind ensemble literature, as well as styles such as mariachi and jazz. Students in our programs have achieved 100% graduation rates and currently attend colleges throughout Texas and the United States with majors as varied as architecture, music, and geology. #Soundwaves of music professional#Our programs have grown and evolved since 2011, including orchestra, band, chamber music, music theory, composition, intergenerational ensembles such as Mariachi Para Todos and the Soundwaves Community Symphony, and interdisciplinary programs that help students achieve personal and professional success. We now count over 200 alumni and the goal to serve 1,000 students per year by fall 2024. This information may be useful to teams as they assign team members to Physics Events as well as they prepare for those events.We were founded as an El Sistema-inspired program in 2011 and our programs have grown from 42 students at a single site in East Austin to nearly 700 students in grades K-12 across 14 partner schools and all ages in our community programs.
